Philosphical Inspiration for this story: Epicurus and Aristotle – Greek Philosophers
Interesting words: Thoughtful, Happiness, Wisdom, Different
ARISTOTLE AND EPICURUS WERE FRIENDS
Today I spent quiet time with my friends in the Girlon Gardens. Walking slowly, smelling flowers and thinking. It’s good to think…we all do it. It helps us to work out our problems.
I realised today that in order to think out my problems, I must just relax and enjoy the moment.
As I was doing this, I heard the wise magical voice of Epicurus. “Pleasure is good” he said to me. “Mmmmm” I said “That’s why I choose my friends wisely, because they make me feel safe” “Yes” said Epicurus “enjoy good friends, have fun and play together in harmony, enjoy simple happiness”. “Such wisdom” I thought.
I have tried to teach this to Astro Joey. She knows happiness. However her little friend Marzipan has things to learn. Marzipan has friends and wants something from her friends when they play together. Marzipan snatches Astro Joey’s toys, does not say ‘thank you’ and puts her chest out like a peacock. She thinks that this is happiness.
Marzipan and Astro Joey are a little different, and they are friends, just like Aristotle and Epicurus. Astro Joey went to visit Aristotle and asked him “how can Marzipan and I be different but happy friends?” Aristotle replied “It is great that friends can look thoughtful and kind, however you must remember that you too are thoughtful and kind” “Mmmm” said Astro Joey. “Yes it is a friendship when we give and take care of each other” said Aristotle.
Sometimes kids who we think are our friends are not real friends, they just want something from you. They can be greedy and mean. So when Marzipan snatches things from Astro Joey, Astro Joey just walks away and smells the flowers. She thinks happy thoughts from times gone before.
The moral of this little fable, children………..
- Think happy thoughts when you feel scared and sad
- Pick your friends wisely. Watch what they do and work out if they are for you.
- Be treated with kindness and treat others with kindness
That’s what real friends do
Epicurus and Aristotle are friends and agree on some things and disagree on others, but they both just want happiness 🙂

One small step for man, one giant step for mankind. Yes, this cheeky fun cartoon character, Astro Joey has landed on planet Earth.
Astro Joey was born on Planet Girlo and is inspired by the great heroines of Planet Girlon. She would go to her quiet space at Crater Lake and read about her heroines in the “Sacred Book of Girlon”. She would dream of exploring the world until one day……..
Stay posted folks as week by week the Astro Joey Blog reveals the mysteries and adventures of Astro Joey and the many characters that she meets along the way.
